7 foods for a well balanced diet

7 Food facts to know - Australian Iron Man Magazine

Seven essential foods for a well balanced diet.

Avocados are 77 per cent fat, one of the fattiest plant foods in the world. But not all fats are created equal; these guys are mostly monounsaturated oleic acid, a ‘heart healthy’ fatty acid linked to the reduction of inflammation. Avocados are also high in fibre, known to aid weight loss, and can help reduce blood-sugar spikes.

Fish oil can block inflammatory chemicals in the body that trigger joint pain. The news on essential fatty acids just keeps getting better and better. They’ve also been shown to help relieve depression.

Lemon juice can prevent kidney stones. It contains citrate, an acid that binds to the crystals in urine that can cause stones to grow. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon into a few of the glasses of water you drink during the day.

Beans have cancer-fighting properties due to their phytic acid content and saponins, which reduce the ability of cancer cells to multiply. They also contain muscle-building amino acids. Mix them with rice to complete the amino profile.

Hazelnuts, as well as other varieties of nuts, contain the good fats your body uses to create cholesterol. Sex hormones such as testosterone require cholesterol for production and to work properly. And you thought cholesterol was a bad thing?

Spinach: Rich in folate, this leafy green is also a great source of magnesium, which is known to help dilate blood vessels. Better blood flow, especially to the groinal region, leads to arousal in both men and women. I’m sure you know what I am talking about.
